A few days ago I heard a (Caucasian) man use the "N" word. Yeah, that word. Honestly, I was more surprised than offended or indignant. It was as if I were hearing someone speak in a dead language from a dead age, or witnessing someone emphatically argue that the earth is indeed flat. I just hadn't heard that kind of language or, more importantly, encountered that sort of flagrant prejudice in quite some time.
